Trusting God Through Prayer
“He answered their prayers because they trusted in Him” (1 Chronicles 5:20b).
Are you a trusting person? We all trust in something or someone; perhaps a family member or close friend? How about a safe car or alarm system in your home? After being with my husband for over 50 years (married for 46), I trust him completely! But more importantly, I trust God, and since you’re reading this, I’m sure you do too. But do we really trust Him with our prayers?
Prayer is one of the clearest expressions of trust. When we pray, we admit that we do not have all the answers and that we need God’s wisdom, strength, provision, and timing. Trust grows not because circumstances change immediately, but because prayer shifts our hearts towards God’s will, as the One who never changes.
Jesus modeled this kind of trust. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed honestly about His anguish, yet surrendered fully to God’s will saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done,” (Luke 22:42). His prayer shows us that trusting God does not mean ignoring fear or pain—it means placing them in God’s hands and submitting to His plan.
Often, we approach prayer hoping for the immediate solution we desire. But true prayer invites us to release control. Philippians 4:6–7 reminds us that when we bring our requests to God with thanksgiving, His peace will guard our hearts and minds. That peace is evidence of trust taking root, even when the answers are delayed or are not the answers we desire.
When we trust God through prayer, we learn to wait with hope, listen with humility, and walk forward with faith. Our focus shifts from fear to faith. The Bible defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 1:11). Faith involves trusting in something we cannot explicitly prove. Faith is inseparable from trust; it’s the confidence that God can and will do what He says in His Word. When we believe something to be true and we also place our trust in it, we rely on it. We may not always understand His ways, but we can be confident that He is faithful and good. Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.” Each prayer becomes a step of trust, drawing us closer to the heart of God.
Let’s come together in prayer on January 27th, trusting God to work His will and answer us in all that our Palau team is preparing for 2026. It’s an exciting journey in faith, and we’d love for you to join us!
